the brief
the brief tab
The songsheets are the beating heart of each song and use the tabbed sections and demo player shown to present their content. The content in each tab section follows a similar pattern.
Like cartoon superheros, each song has its own brief 'origin' story too, and that's recounted in the first tab of each songsheet.
- These 'briefs' tell the story of how each song came into gordon's awareness, and relates any particular challenges gordon had bringing it forward.
- The briefs often fill in the main sub-stories, and they often bring out the connections between songs.
- The briefs include a sampling of the song's lyrics to illustrate its development and general thrust.
The main demo player on every songsheet plays the 'current' or (in gordon's idiot musant opinion) 'best' existing version of that song. The recording featured in this player is indicated with a gold in the vault.
v 1.0
the v 1.0 tab
Most songs from the first/second phases include a v 1.0 tab that gives access to the lyrics and/or a demo recording of that first version of the song.
The recording featured in the 1.0 demo player is indicated with a blue in the vault.
Note: not all of the 1.0/2.0 songs include this tab. For instance, the songs Better run boy and The nightmare run do not have 2.0 versions at all.
the lyrics
the lyrics tab
Oddly enough, the lyrics tab give access to the finalized lyrics for each song.
- The 'current' recording is not always a fully mastered, lyrically complete version of the song. (This is especially the case for the 1.0 version songs.) So the lyrics in the demo recording may not be accurate, but the on-screen text of the lyrics will be accurate.
- Songs from the first and second phases with separate v 1.0 tabs include those lyrics in that tab.
the vault
the vault tab & demo player
Each song's vault has a primary purpose: to show that song's development across time with a selection of its recordings, and to highlight the 'current' or 'best' existing version of that song.
- The number of recordings in the vault depends on the type of song, how long it took to master, and how many times gordon bothered to output a mix.
- Recordings in the vault appear chronologically, from the earliest to the latest (which is usually the 'current' version of the song featured in the main demo player).
- All recordings in the vault include the date or period when the recording was made.
- An orange indicates the current recording featured in the main demo player. The current version is updated anytime gordon makes a new! improved! better! recording of the song.
- A blue indicates the recording featured in the v 1.0 demo player.
the [g]-ratings scale
Each recording has a [g]-rating, based on gordon's totally arbitrary and subjective assessments of that recording. These ratings help gordon identify and prioritize songs to be re-recorded and improved over time.
The [g]-ratings scale has six levels (that can be be further defined with a plus or minus (+ or - ):
[10] — won't happen until song recorded by a real singer
[9] — as good as gordon can ever theoretically achieve
[8] — good enough for demo, could still be improved
[7] — close, not quite good enough for demo
[6] — serious problems but useable if no better version
[5] — needs to be replaced
The various recordings on this website are not for download or release. They are just low resolution demos of the songs gordon has channeled into this existence. They long for a real singer to release them from their idiot musant prison. Interested parties can contact gordon @ this website.
